A year and a half into becoming a clinical dietitian, the thrill of not having any school or homework wore off and I decided that I once again wanted to progress my career in some way. I feel like I am always searching for some way to push myself or gain more knowledge, which is … Continue reading How to pass the CNSC Exam.
Roasted veggies (broccoli, brussell sprouts, and carrots), half a sweet potato, and a turkey burger (I buy the ones with no added seasonings and sodium less than 100mg per serving) + avocado. Keeping the Sunday’s nice and relaxing with quick meals. ⭐️
I have been experimenting with the new Chili Lime Trader Joe’s seasoning this past week. Roasted vegetables + the chili lime seasoning was the absolute winner. My roasted veggies are even more delicious now! Sooooo good. I have to get a petition for a Trader Joe’s to come to my area like immediately 😭 **not sponsored, I am just in love with TJ’s and pretty much all of their products including the cauliflower gnocchi which is like my second favorite product from them currently. If you live near a TJ’s and haven’t tried, you need to!! What’s your favorite TJ’s products??!
I can’t believe it. 6 MONTHS OLD. • • -he can sit up by himself now! -we have tried a few foods but he isn’t really interested yet -no teeth yet but I feel like it’s going to be any day now -pediatrician appointment on Tuesday for his 6 month shots 😭 -we are still going strong with breastfeeding! -he loves grabbing everyone’s faces and hair now (not the most fun new talent 🤣) -we just bought him a walker and he absolutely loves it! He is cruising around the kitchen as we speak -he still refuses to roll over (it has only happened once which thankfully we got on video haha) - he went underwater with me and wasn’t phased at all! - he loves to be outside and watch the trees -he has just been introduced to swinging and he is a fan! • • He still keeps us on our toys with the need for constant interaction, we are going all day long with this kid! So blessed to have had him for half a year! Time has flown by! Happy half birthday Sullivan! *** wearing his Saturday Apple onesie from Meredith Deas
“According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 56% of women and 42% of men are trying to slim down. This year, a whopping 45 million Americans will choose a diet as their way to get there and will spend a whopping $33 billion on weight loss products along the way! Yet more Americans are overweight/obese than ever before.” - Fran Sutherlin RD • • Focusing on simple, easy to implement habits and focusing on them long term is the preferred strategy for reaching your weight and health goals. Easy habits to implement can range from adding a walk into your nightly routine (aka get your body moving), avoiding consuming too many calories from simple sugars like sodas/candy, reducing processed foods, opting for the majority of your foods being whole foods, and aiming for at least 5 servings of fruits/vegetables a day! I could go on and on with ideas for simple to implement habits. What are some of your ideas?!
I was able to nap post work with Sullivan because I didn’t have to worry about cooking dinner thanks to meal prepping this weekend. This Monday has been fabulous ⭐️ • • Tuna salad lettuce boats, half a sweet potato topped with cinnamon (my fav), and a handful of cherries! 😋 • • And for a reason to focus on health. Here is an excerpt from a Today’s dietitian article on the importance of overall diet quality: “Poor diet quality may influence weight and metabolic risk independent of calories: Different types of foods have different effects on satiety, glucose-insulin responses, liver fat synthesis, fat-cell function, craving and reward responses in the brain, and the creation of visceral fat. In the same way that physical activity improves metabolic health even in the absence of weight loss, diet quality can improve or worsen things like diabetes risk even without changing caloric intake.3 "Cutting calories can help with weight loss, but many choices leave people missing important nutrients that could be contributing to their overall health," says Marina Chaparro, MPH, RDN, LD, CDE, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.” ***Which emphasizes the importance of overall diet quality not just calorie restriction. That’s why I think my profession is so important, because we teach people to create better eating habits resulting in a better diet quality without focusing on what you “can’t” have ! Get yourself a dietitian, I recommend it!
